Palm Sunday
“The crowds that went ahead of him and that followed were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!””
Matthew 21:9
Hosanna, Hosanna, they greeted Jesus as a conquering hero. They waved palms as he entered Jerusalem, riding on a donkey. They thought HE would rescue them from their suffering at the hands of the Romans. He did, but not in the way they expected.
Some of the same ones who greeted him joyfully were the folks who later shouted, “Crucify him!” This is a reminder to us that those who will celebrate you one day will want you destroyed the next. Especially if you don’t do what they want.
The thing is, He conquered much more than the Roman oppressors. Jesus conquered death! He showed us that God is more powerful than any leader or government. He reminds us of who we need to put our trust in.
