Colossians Chapter 2
Study Two:  Lesson One (2.2.1) -- "What are you Forcing?"
Assignment
Lesson One
"What are you Forcing?"

What are you trying to accomplish through sheer will and determination?

--Are you trying to make someone love you?
--Are you trying to force someone to hire you?
--Are you denying a situation that is staring you straight in the face?
--Are you pushing forward when EVERY SINGLE sign is telling you to let go and let God?

Are you thinking all you need is your will and determination and you can accomplish anything in life?
(see Lesson 1.3.2 -- Thy Will be Done)

The Word tells us of the importance of perseverance

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."    James 1:2-4

and faith:

"...if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, `Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."  Matthew 17:20

You cannot "Be all that you can be" without God, and HIS plan for your life.

Assignment:

Is God 'telling you NO' on some desire you have?

Think about it....are you constantly running into obstacles.... should you give up or try again?  Every situation is different...relax in faith and deep prayer.

Look to the Word for Biblical women that struggled with God's plan for their life, i.e.  Esther, Hagar, and Ruth and Naomi, a mother and her daughter-in-law who lost everything when their husbands died.

What can you learn from their examples?

What are some of these deceptive philosophies:
  • “Man is the center of the universe and controls all things;”
  • “We can accomplish anything we want through sheer determination and will;”
  • “He who has the most toys wins;”
  • “We should always look out for number one;”
  • “We are God;”
This chapter continues the exploration of what the world teaches us, compared to what we find in God’s word.

Verse 6So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him,
Verse 7rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
Verse 8See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.
