Lesson One -- Who is HE? Who is Christ?
Verse 15 "He is the image of the invisible God."
God became man through Christ. Christ reflects and reveals God.
Verse 15 "the firstborn over all creation."
Christ existed before creation and possesses all the rights and privileges over everything that came thereafter.
Verse 16 "For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him."
Christ reigns over all authorities from heaven or earth, including angels, prophets, leaders, governments, institutions, and kingdom.
Verse 17 "He is before all things, and in him all things hold together."
He is the Alpha and the Omega.
Verse 18 "And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy."
Christ was the first to rise from the dead with a resurrected body. He is the head of the church.
Verse 19 "For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him,"
Jesus is not just a fraction of God, or a mere represenatation of God. Christ is God in the fullest sense.
Verse 20 "and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross."
When Christ died on the cross, he made peace possible between God and man.
